STHL Launches Patient Portal and
Link to Microsoft HealthVault
Southern Tier HealthLink (STHL) has introduced the STHL Patient Portal, a service allowing consumers to interact with its Health Information Exchange. The new STHL Patient Portal will allow healthcare consumers throughout the Southern Tier to:
- Manage their consent and share data with their doctors
- Access their providers and their health information
- Monitor who is accessing their information

iCare Makes Health Information Instantly Available
Southern Tier HealthLink (STHL) has adopted iCare, an iPhone application, as its technology for physicians to access the Health Information Exchange for UHS patients during their hospital stays. iCare is software (patent pending) developed by Dr. Afzal ur Rehman of Cardiology Associates. 263 UHS providers at Binghamton General and Wilson Hospitals, including the Emergency Departments, will be able to immediately access healthcare records for patients who have provided consent.

Southern Tier HealthLink Enables Electronic Referral Service
Working in collaboration with Medent EHR Software, Southern Tier HealthLink (STHL) has successfully facilitated the point-to-point exchange of referrals between two major Southern Tier medical practices. In a successful pilot test, patient referrals flowed electronically between Endwell Family Physicians and Cardiology Associates, eliminating the need for faxes and telephone calls between the practices. Dr Afzal ur Rehman, President of Cardiology Associates said, "Our patients will benefit from the speed and accuracy of electronic healthcare record transmission. Cardiology Associates providers and staff are very excited to be a part of this accomplishment."

Southern Tier HealthLink Now Receiving Provider Transcriptions from UHS
Transcribed reports from UHS are now available in the Southern Tier HealthLink (STHL) Health Information Exchange (HIE). The transcribed reports include Operative Notes, History & Physical Examinations, Discharge Summaries, Echocardiograms, Angioplasty and other Cardiology-related labs, Catheterizations, and Respiratory reports.
Data upload started on June 20 and reports are available to participating hospitals and physicians from that point forward. Learn how electronic access to transcribed reports can improve patient care!

Dr. Sze-Tu Joins STHL Board of Directors
Southern Tier HealthLink is pleased to welcome Dr. Duncan Sze-Tu of Endwell Family Physicians, L.L.P. (EFP) to its Board of Directors.
Dr. Sze-Tu is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. He completed his Residency and Teaching Fellowship at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City and is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Sze-Tu is a partner in and has an active practice at Endwell Family Physicians in Endwell.
Dr. Sze-Tu commented, "The use of STHL's Health Information Exchange improves our patient referral workflow at Endwell Family Physicians. We are able to get patient records to specialists and other providers faster and more accurately, and patients will receive better, more timely care through this use of technology. We have also benefitted from our ability to access patient records -- with their consent, of course - allowing us to provide even more comprehensive care."

STHL Striders Connect Dots at Relay for Life
Congratulations to the STHL Striders, Southern Tier HealthLink's team who committed time, effort, and dollars to support the American Cancer Society's Greater Binghamton Relay for Life. a garage sale that employees organized at their office in the Old Lackawanna Train Station on June 3 and 4.
Staff members were on hand during peak hours of the Relay for Life to tell participants about how STHL is "connecting the dots" between healthcare providers and practices who are participating with the organization's health information exchange. Participants learned about the STHL Patient Portal that recently launched, and received assistance signing up for a secure account.
STHL was honored to receive a Bronze Team Award from the American Cancer Society for their efforts at Relay for Life.
