Southern Tier HealthLink Debuts Health Information Exchange Educational Video

Southern Tier HealthLink (STHL), the Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) for the Southern Tier of New York, debuted an educational video highlighting the benefits of Health Information Exchange (HIE) and Integrated Personal Health Records (PHR).
Southern Tier HealthLink (STHL), the Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) for the Southern Tier of New York, debuted an educational video highlighting the benefits of Health Information Exchange (HIE) and Integrated Personal Health Records (PHR). The video was shot entirely in the virtual world of Second Life (SL) to demonstrate the potential for education and community healthcare support in three dimensional social networking domains.
The educational video titled "Between Worlds: A Journey of Hope" was produced by Christina Galanis (Executive Director, Southern Tier HealthLink). It was written by Lori Sheppard of Toronto, Ontario, and filmed by British cinematographer Alice Summerside. Southern Tier HealthLink extends a sincere thanks to all participants and volunteers on the project.
"Our goal was to combine storytelling with rich visuals to create an original story that would highlight the benefit of Health Information Exchange (HIE) and explain the Personal Health Record (PHR) within a relatable story" said Christina Galanis. "As STHL launches its local PHR, educating consumers about the benefits is an important component. There is a need to start demonstrating the benefits of our nation's move towards interoperable electronic health records for quality, efficiency and accuracy for patients to participate in. In addition these strategies allow for patient self-management by making the Personal Health Record available to assist patients in contributing to and actively participating in their own health care.
