Southern Tier HealthLink (STHL) has adopted iCare, an iPhone application, as its technology to allow physicians to access the Health Information Exchange for UHS patients during their hospital stays. iCare is software (patent pending) developed by Dr. Afzal ur Rehman of Cardiology Associates. Over 230 UHS providers at Binghamton General and Wilson Hospitals, including the Emergency Departments, will be able to immediately access healthcare records for patients who have provided consent.
"This is a major breakthrough in the quality of care that will be provided in both of these Emergency Departments and throughout both hospitals," said Christina Galanis, Executive Director for Southern Tier HealthLink. "We will be working with other hospitals and providers in the region to help them bring this potentially lifesaving technology to their facilities in the near future."
"The iCare team is extremely proud of its work on this iPhone application," said Dr. Rehman. "This application will give our providers virtually instant access to patients healthcare records at a time when up-to-date, accurate information is critical to successful patient treatment."
Southern Tier HealthLink (sthlny.com) was established with leadership and support from UHS, Lourdes Hospital and other stakeholders in 2005. STHL is a non-profit organization designed as a partnership which brings together healthcare providers and consumers in Central New York to "connect the dots" with technology that will improve health care quality, access and safety while reducing costs. STHL now offers a Patient Portal, allowing healthcare consumers to access, manage and monitor their health information on their own computers. For more information contact Christina Galanis at or .
